Join us on 20 May 2023, either online or in-person in Leeds UK, 1.30-3pm, for keynote and conversation with Anthea Sully on ‘Countering Strongman Politics – Learning from Women Peacebuilders’.

Countering ‘strong man’ politics. The culture of the ‘strong man’ has been a feature of war and violence and social injustice for centuries. Today we see it in Putin, Trump and Netanyahu. We will be considering the challenging question of how we counter these dangerous and violent dynamics. Anthea will speak from her own Christian and secular experience of speaking into this space and will draw on all our perspectives to see if we can find hope within our current troubled times.

Anthea Sully is currently Chief Executive of White Ribbon UK, a national organisation working to prevent violence against women by engaging with men. She is also a member of the coordinating committee of the Ecumenical Forum of European Christian Women. Anthea’s varied background has been as a church leader and in organisations outside the faith arena. She is a campaigner, social entrepreneur, and former local politician and has led several high profile human rights campaigns. She has spoken at national and international events. For five years Anthea led on social justice, national and international affairs for the Methodist Church in Britain and was moderator of the Conference of European Churches, Church and Society Commission.

An event together with the Fellowship of Reconciliation.
