A call of Church and Peace for the upcoming advent time: Challenging the European Union’s decisions on PESCO and the Stability Instrument

Diemelstadt, Germany, 29 November 2017 – For all the armour of the armed man in the tumult, and the garments rolled in blood, shall even be for burning, for fuel of fire. For a child has been born for us, a son given to us. His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace. He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. (Jesaja 9:5ff)

As advent is coming, Christians all over the world remember and revitalize the old and still challenging vision of a world of peace, with justice and with righteousness. Church and Peace as European ecumenical network carries the deep conviction that following the path of the one whom we wait for during advent means to stick to non-violence and peace building.

The more we recognize in these days again with deep concern the plans of the President of the Commission and leaders of most of EU governments to transform the European Union into a military alliance and actor. (…)
