WETHEN, 13 July 2018 – The European Union’s proposed budget priorities are driving it further away from its origins as a project of peace and reconciliation and towards a predominantly military alliance focused on controlling its borders, says the European ecumenical network Church and Peace.

The European ecumenical network Church and Peace is deeply concerned about the European Union’s plans to boost spending on military instruments instead of investing in civilian peacebuilding. As more details of the proposed Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2021-2017 are communicated, we observe that the EU is increasingly steering a course away from Europe as a peace project and towards a military alliance.

“Peace church in a world of conflict? Answering the biblical call to nonviolence” a regional gathering in Birmingham on 28 October 2017.

This day of reflection and discussion will look at how we can be true to our vocation as peace churches in a world where we can feel that our message is not being heard and is regarded as impractical.

How can we lead faithful lives when all around us we see violence and conflict? How can we encourage and support one another to link belief and practice, to bring the biblical call to nonviolence from the margins to the centre of the churches, and how can Church and Peace help us in this?

SCHOEFFENGRUND, Germany, 14 June 2017 – Church and Peace is calling churches and government leaders to make decisive choices for nonviolence and to turn away from putting trust in military-based security concepts. At its Annual General Meeting on 9-11 June in Strasbourg, the European peace church network explored the theme “Freed from fear, empowered to nonviolence” through the lens of an ongoing call to (R)reformation 500 years after Martin Luther proposed his theses for debate in Wittenberg, Germany.

Schoeffengrund/GERMANY, 30 March 2017 – The European ecumenical network Church and Peace has appointed Ms Lydia Funck to serve as its new General Secretary, beginning 1 April 2017.
A member of Bad Königshofen Mennonite Church, Ms Funck was awarded a Masters of Arts in Peace and Conflict Studies in March of this year from Philipps-Universität Marburg.
